Material – Real World to Virtual World

Material – Real World to Virtual World, plays an important role in our life. If you are going into the market for purchasing, you always asked about the material. What is this material, what are the qualities of this material, is it fine for daily use, etc. etc. You easily identify any surface via material. Same goes with Virtual World also. From childhood we learn about the materials, so we all have a sense to differentiate the elements.
If you are designing any object in 2d and 3d software, you need to assign a material for this object. Before assigning material to any object, it is a raw material. Like in 3d, there is a predefined object which is called teapot. After drawing teapot, you need to choose a material for a whole surface or parts of the surface. The material must be a glass, metal, ceramic, steel, plastic, rubber, etc. etc. Like I have assigned glass material over the upper lid and ceramic for the rest of the teapot. So, you can easily identify the teapot surface, as you have assigned the material on it. So, material plays a vital role in real world to virtual one.
In real world as well as the virtual world, there are so many elements with the same material. Like dining table, crockery, dinner set, etc. etc.
If we are talking about any material, there are so many varieties of every material as well. You need to know the properties before assigning any material to the surface. Example – there are so many types of plastic available like rough plastic, smooth plastic, shiny plastic, glossy plastic, soft plastic, hard plastic, reflective plastic, transparent plastic, translucent plastic, self – illuminated plastic, etc. etc. Same goes with every material. If you are assigning metal to any surface in 3d, so you need to identify the object behavior first. Like is it a rusty one or a smooth one.
In short, you cannot identify any surface, without the knowledge of the material.
